Privacy Policy

1. Data Stored On Your Device Only

The following is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

• Catch journal entries and photos
• App preferences (theme, username, PIN lock settings)
• Anonymous user identifier (a randomly generated UUID — contains no personal information)
• Draft community posts and blocked-user lists

2. Data We Receive On Our Servers

When you use Community features, the following is transmitted to and stored on our servers:

• Community posts: your chosen display name, emoji, species, weight, location, caption, and optional catch photo
• Catch photos: if you attach a photo to a community post, the image is uploaded to and stored on our servers
• App ratings and reviews you submit voluntarily
• Anonymous user ID (random UUID) used to track likes and prevent duplicate votes — not linked to your real identity

We do not collect your real name, email address, phone number, date of birth, or any government identifier.

3. Third-Party Services

• Open-Meteo — receives a latitude/longitude coordinate for weather, tides, UV and air quality. No personal data sent.
• NOAA SWPC — fixed public endpoint for space weather (Kp index). No coordinates or personal data sent.
• OpenAI (optional, Premium) — when you use the AI Fish Identifier or AI Boat Repair features, a photo and/or description is sent to OpenAI's API. No name, email, or device identifier is included. Governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
• Apple In-App Purchases (optional) — subscription management through Apple. Apple processes payments; we receive only confirmation that a valid subscription exists.

No advertising networks, analytics platforms, crash reporting services, or user-tracking services are used.

4. Location Data

Location is used in real-time only for the fishing spots map, GPS speedometer, and weather lookups. Coordinates are never stored in any database by us.

5. Camera, Photos & Microphone

Camera/photo access is used to attach photos to community posts and for the AI Fish Identifier. Community post photos are uploaded to our servers (see section 2). Voice narration (text-to-speech) reads content aloud — no audio is captured. Microphone may be requested by iOS when recording video in the Catch Gallery; any recorded video is stored locally only.

6. No Accounts Required

No account, email, or registration is required. Community display names are chosen freely and need not be your real name.

7. Analytics & Tracking

We collect zero analytics, usage data, or tracking. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no advertising identifiers.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Community posts and ratings are retained on our servers unless you request removal. To request deletion of server-stored content: support@castcatch.com.au. Local app data is deleted automatically when you uninstall the app.

9. Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Community features should be used under adult supervision by children.

10. Changes

We may update this policy at any time. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
